Dáithí Sproule

“A seminal figure in Irish music”
-The Rough Guide to Irish Music

Dáithí Sproule arriving in Donegal

Cúpla Focal ó Dháithí

April 14, 2026

Welcome to my website! In my last post I was hoping for a snowy winter here in Minnesota and my wish was fulfilled! Now spring is finally here and the birds are singing and chirping again in our back garden and adding new entries to our bird list (which reached 111 species this morning!).

Coming up now the Twin Town Old Time Music Festival, and I’m very happy to be taking part in it this year – a slot in the Friday concert with fiddler Danny Diamond, a session and a couple of workshops. I always praise the old time community here and it’s well deserved – wonderful people and super musicians.

In May I teach songs in Irish at Deireadh Seachtaine Gaeilge in Saint Paul, and in June the always great Minnesota Irish Music Weekend comes along.

In addition to some workshops, I’ll be part of a very special event – the launch concert for the cd with my fabulous tunepal, Victoria Adiiye – “There but for fortune”. The album features an eclectic (and sometimes electric) mixture of songs and finger-picked and flat-picked tunes on twin guitars, with a good few compositions of my own and featuring two songs with beautiful lyrics from our friend, Barry Foy.

There you go for now!

New CD: There but for Fortune: Victoria Adiiye & Dáithí Sproule

June 12, 2026

Intricate guitar work and vocals layer the selections on this duet album. Featuring original compositions and timeless lyrics, Adiiye and Sproule explore the sounds and textures of instrumentals and songs.  It’s magical music, sprung from a shared love of beautiful melodies and innovative arrangements.

This album is, above everything, a record of a friendship. A collection that grew from years of playing together — the recent ones from across an ocean. It is music about movement: about rivers and journeys, about love and leaving, about the places that stay with you long after you’ve gone. It’s a theme that was never far from our minds even when we lived in the same place — and one that feels more alive than ever now that we don’t. Derry and Donegal, Uganda and Massachusetts, Minnesota and Cork — the tunes and songs here live in the spaces between all of those places, and in the friendships that made the distances worth crossing.
